four things survey

Thank you to Shelly at Beauty and the Box for tagging me to answer the Four Things Survey. She thinks she excludes personal details, but she’s got nothing on me. I don’t even have a name. That will be problematic for this first question. Enjoy!

Four names that people call me other than my real name:

  1. gentleman MVMNT (shock, that is not my actual name)
  2. Steele (my middle name that very few people know about)
  3. Man of Steel (see above, though I wish I looked a bit more like Superman himself)
  4. Sultan (don’t ask)

Four jobs I’ve had:

  1. Intern for a start-up real estate investment company
  2. Consultant for the Federal Government (please don’t blame me for anything)
  3. Cleaner/Builder/YODA (Your Other Duties as Assigned) at a local box here in Portland
  4. Financial Analyst for an outdoor equipment manufacturer (current)

Four movies I’ve watched more than once:

  1. All Reese Witherspoon movies (yes, I love her)
  2. Gladiator (my DVD copy skipped certain parts because I watched it too much)
  3. Wedding Crashers (three times just in theater)
  4. Shawshank Redemption

Four books I’d recommend:

  1. The Killer Angels by Michael Shaara
  2. Horse Soldiers by Doug Stanton
  3. American Gods by Neil Gaiman
  4. The Sisters Brothers by Patrick deWitt

Four places I’ve lived:

  1. Just outside of Hartford, Connecticut (childhood)
  2. Richmond, VA (college)
  3. Washington, DC
  4. Portland, OR (current)

Riomaggiore from the ferry. Cinque Terre is such a beautiful place to relax, hike, eat, and adventure.

Four places I’ve been:

  1. Copenhagen, Denmark (to study abroad)
  2. Cinque Terre, Italy
  3. Big Sky, Montana (to ski – it was epic)
  4. Monaco (for the Grand Prix – also epic)

Four places I’d rather be right now:

  1. Any of the above four places
  2. Salt Lake City, where they just got two feet of snow
  3. Hawaii (my hopeful next vacation spot)
  4. At home, with the Gentlelady and Gentledog

Four things I don’t eat:

  1. Soda (although I used to drink Sprite exclusively in my younger years)
  2. Chocolate candy (just never was a big fan – gummy bears on the other hand…)
  3. Broccoli (I really want to like it – and the Gentlelady is trying her best – I just can’t eat it without making a face)
  4. ??? I eat most things…

Four of my favorite foods:

  1. Fruit (totally agree Shelly, fruit for life)
  2. Steak (thank you Dad for a borderline unhealthy love for red meat)
  3. Hash browns (the homemade kind)
  4. Pizza

Four TV shows I watch:

  1. All the live sports (only reality television worth watching!)
  2. New Girl
  3. Modern Family
  4. Cosmos (with another man crush, Neil deGrasse Tyson. This show blows my mind!)

Four things I’m looking forward to this year:

  1. Cleaning 200#, Squatting 300#, Deadlifting 400#…
  2. Vacation in Hawaii (crossing my fingers on this one)
  3. Ski trip to Alta/Snowbird in January (recently ranked the #2 and #4 ski resorts in North America)
  4. Gentledog’s perfect behavior (not gonna happen, but we have to set our sights high)

Four things I’m always saying:

  1. “For sure”
  2. “No worries”
  3. Sitting is bad for you” (to my colleagues. I must be getting annoying or getting through because some people are starting to stand up)
  4. “No!” (to Gentledog, who enjoys tearing all things with fluffy substances inside. This includes, but is not limited to: the comforter, his bed, my bed, all toys, pillows…)

Four people I tag to answer these questions:

  1. Jennifer
  2. Chris
  3. Martha
  4. You, the reader! Anyone who wants, go for it, or post your four things in the comments.

I may not get to this this year with a bunch of other things planned on my blog… but thank you for the nomination!!

So Superman has been known to hang out at a local box around here in Detroit; apparently they are doing some filming lately up here and I saw him from a mile away at a recent competition I did..

I, too, prefer gummy bears (or Sour Patch kids!) over chocolate.. and try BURNING your broccoli. No joke. Here’s what you do: Put a bunch in a bowl and sprinkle garlic powder on it. Shake it up. Then add a tablespoon or two of olive oil. Bake at 400′ for ten minutes. Flip. Bake for another 7-10 minutes or so. Remove from oven; sprinkle sea salt They’ll be a bit dark and crispy. And TOLERABLE!! I used to HATE broccoli.. and now I can tolerate it!! Someone told me the same works for Brussels sprouts. It doesn’t.

Interesting. I’ll have to try this. I actually like Brussels sprouts – we bake them with minced garlic, salt, and pepper and they crisp up nicely. They need around 20-30 minutes at 375 – 400. I may be able to get into burnt broccoli.

Listen to Jennifer about the broccoli! I baked mine the same way and it is amazing!!! Still no name, huh? So mysterious.
